Chiang Mai, as a city and province in the northern region of Thailand, has tremendous creative potential in ceramics originating in folk wisdom, clay sources, ornamentation, glazing, and firing, which has produced unique work that has garnered renown throughout history. At present, there remains a group of artisans and artists spread throughout various locations in Chiang Mai Province who are creating ceramic art with independent characteristics as each different environment fosters individual development in their artwork. However, one important thing that leads to our perpetual development is that we share views, ideas, and experiences and pass on good things to or even work together with those who maintain the same determination in order to overcome obstacles and achieve the goal of sustainably developing ceramics arts in Chiang Mai, both individually and collectively at the same time. As we have seen the importance of ceramics in the past, we are determined to do what we love today for a good and lasting future; therefore, “Chiang Mai Clayative” was created. This is the collaboration of 15 ceramic artists and friends, both in their names and in the names of their ceramic studios. The common goal is to cooperate, transfer knowledge, share good things, develop our work, organize activities, and disseminate ceramics arts widely, all “in our own way” and we welcome any friends with the same determination to join us on our journey of creation.

จังหวัดเชียงใหม่เป็นหนึ่งในจังหวัดภาคเหนือของประเทศไทยเป็นเมืองขนาดใหญ่ที่มีศักยภาพในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานเครื่องเคลือบดินเผา(เซรามิค) จากภูมิปัญญา แหล่งดิน การตกแต่ง การเคลือบ การเผา สร้างผลงานที่มีเอกลักษณ์เป็นที่ทราบกันอย่างกว้างขวางดังที่ได้ถูกบันทึกไว้ในประวัติศาสตร์

ในปัจจุบันยังคงมีช่างฝีมือและศิลปินส่วนหนึ่งที่สร้างสรรค์ผลงานเครื่องเคลือบดินเผากระจายตัวกันอยู่ในพื้นที่ต่างๆจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ทำให้เกิดลักษณะเฉพาะจากการทำงานที่เป็นอิสระในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ต่างกันเกิดการพัฒนาในตัวผลงานอย่างเป็นปัจเจก แต่สิ่งสำคัญอย่างหนึ่งที่จะทำให้เกิดการพัฒนาอย่างไม่สิ้นสุดคือการที่เราได้แลกเปลี่ยนมุมมอง แนวคิด ประสบการณ์ ส่งผ่านสิ่งดีหรือแม้แต่การร่วมมือกันในการฝ่าฟันอุปสรรคในการทำงานกับผู้ที่มีเจตจำนงเดียวกัน เพื่อบรรลุเป้าหมายในการพัฒนาผลงานเซรามิคทั้งที่เป็นปัจเจกและเป็นองค์รวมของงานเครื่องเคลือบดินเผาในเชียงใหม่ไปพร้อมกันอย่างยั่งยืน

การที่เราได้เห็นถึงความสำคัญของงานเซรามิคอดีตและตั้งใจทำสิ่งที่เรารักในปัจจุบันเพื่ออนาคตที่ดีและยั่งยืนจึงเป็นที่มาของการจัดตั้งกลุ่ม “เชียงใหม่เคลย์เอทีฟ” เริ่มจากการร่วมกันทำงานของเพื่อนศิลปินเซรามิคจำนวน 15 คน ทั้งในนามส่วนตัวและในนามของสตูดิโอเซรามิค เป้าหมายหลักร่วมกันคือการ แลกเปลี่ยน ช่วยเหลือ ส่งผ่านความรู้ แบ่งปันสิ่งดีงาม พัฒนาผลงาน จัดกิจกรรม และเผยแพร่ผลงานเซรามิคให้กว้างขวาง”ในแนวทางของเรา”และเรามีความยินดีต้อนรับเพื่อนผู้มีเจตจำนงเดียวกันนี้มาร่วมสร้างสรรค์และเดินทางไปด้วยกัน
